What's a the problem without using access profiles on CUA?

We used CUA 3.6 without using access profiles and updated the CUA to 4.0SP1. The CUA failed and will be replaced. The procedure to replace CUA node mentions that the use of access profile is strongly recommended, however, we don't want to change any setting of the CUA because there is now no problem without using profiles. My understanding is that access profiles is used for only authentication of an application. Please let me know if CUA has any problems by not using  access profiles.

Hi

The usage of access profiles is recommended to prevent non-authenticated and non-authorized access to Centera. Newer versions of CentraStar disable the anonymous profile by default. By using the anonymous profile your data will remain in the default pool. All applications using the anonymous profile will see each other's data if query is enabled.

By enabling the anonymous profile you are still able to use CUA as you have been before.

Access profiles are used for the authentication of the application. The system administrator defines the capabilities available to the application; the profile does not contain any information about privileges granted to the profile. This also means it does not need to be changed when privileges change.

Best regards, Holger

Primarily for security, however when authorizing access, the CUA looks for authenticating elements in the following order:
1. Access profile for gateways or backup
2. Default access profile
3. PEA file (usr/local/pai)
4. Anonymous
