objects count
Hi,
I'm working on a new application for which we plan to use Centera.
The application is based on "folders". Each folder contains several thousands files (usually between 10,000 and 100,000).
Our usual integration would create a clip per folder, and a tag per file.
Am I correct thinking that a 10,000 files folder would then use 10,001 objects on the Centera (1 CDF + 10,000 blobs) ? And double that number with replication ?
Since we plan to have a lot of folders (maybe 100,000) I think we may have to use contenairisation to reduce objects count.
Regards,
Didier

Hi Didier - a "folder" clip with 10,000 objects would take (10,000 * 2) + 1 objects on the Centera (if it is configured for mirroring). If all the objects were "large" (over 250k) and Parity was configured then the result would be (10,000 * 6) + 1.
For smaller objects (under 100k) these can be embedded directly into the CDF. This decreases the object count, but loses the potential to single instance such objects and also increases the size of the CDF (which means that the clip takes longer to open). We recommend keeping the size of the CDF to a maximum of 10MB (although 100MB is the actual "hard" limit).
If the cluster is replicated, then the same number of objects will be used on the replica.
