Decommissioning the Centera

There's plan to remove the Centera from our Data Centre. If we were to copy to tape offline/online and then store the data for legal reasons would this be easy enough for us to restore if we needed to recover that data. Or would we have recover the application and then the c-clips ( if they were indexed) and then retrive the data?

Sorry I'm not centera savy in any way. My question may seem very trival.

Perhaps I should just ask you all :What would be the best way to store the information prior to the centera being decommissioned? Need would be to retrieve the data at any time for a number of years.

Hi

If you are decommissioning the application as well you could use a tape backup application like Storfirst Altus to backup your Centera. To recover to a new one in case you need please make sure you take a complete export of the configuration (export poolprofilesetup) of the old one. ONLY with this export you'll be able to restore the same pools that you need for your tape restore to be successfull.

If you have the requirement to access your data for the next couple of years it should remain on Centera.

If you want to achieve the same without the Centera you'll need to migrate your Centera information using the application to another device. If this one is not WORM like Centera there will be no guarantee that it hasn't changed when you recall it.

Best regards, Holger
