Creating a test/developement environment with Centera's

Hi all,

Currently my client has 2 Centera's primary/dr in separate locations. They will be doing bidirectional replication. They want to create a test/developement enviromment similar to what is done with SRDF/Timefinder or Celerra rw checkpoints.

What are there options with creating a similar environment?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks again.

Could they add a 3rd Centera and take a image of the replica or primary, at that?

Im not entirely sure.

You could use the pause/resume mechanism to apply this theory.

Hi,

Replication allows to automatically and asynchronously replicate clips  to a replica cluster. Replication is disabled by default; once enabled,  it will attempt to replicate all newly written clips to the replica  cluster. Centera cannot create point in time replica's. As data is archived/deleted on the source centera, the operation is then replicated on to the target cluster,

Hi Richard,

Have a read of knowledge base article emc248190. Instead of searching for 'Chain replication', search for bidirectional.

This will provide you with information on bidirectional replication and how to configure it,

Thanks for your reply.

I understand the bidirectional replication. I was just giving general info on the site. What the customer wants is to create a point in time image of the production environment and use it for developement/testing purposes similar to Timefinder or Celerra checkpoint. I am looking for a way to do this similarly in a Centera environment.

Thanks

Hi

If you want to establish a point in time image I would use a third "clone" Centera. Use your primary ones in bi-directional replication as you described.

Periodically perform a restore from any one of your production ones to the clone system.

Other than that we are thinking of implementing such functionality in Replitect but it will probably take until next year till that is implemented an tested. It would like DelayedDeletes (replicating deletes with a given schedule and a configurable delay to retain a copy of deleted objects on the target for recovery purposes) provide DelayedWrites funktionality essentially providing a one to many replication possibility with schedule, bandwith control and configurable delay.

Best regards, Holger
