Centera Migration from existing bi replication cluster to 2 new clusters

Hi Guys,

I have the following situation: we have 2x centera clusters (every with 4 nodes, on which 3 TB were used).  One Cluster is in Austria and another one in USA, between them, there is a bi replication configured. Now the 2 Clusters should be replaced by new ones? I think the recommended procedure from EMC will be C2C, but I think I heared CICM will be also an option and maybe easier ??? Because with an existing bi replication, would it be possible to add the new clusters too ? or is it necessary to change the configuration first in a chain replication ???

Hi Paul, sorry it was my first posting - now I moved it in the centera support community - I hope, it´s a better place

Hi this is a forum for Centera SDK development so you may be better asking your EMC sales team for an answer to this question.

If anyone reading this has an answer please feel free to post.

Did this ever get answered for you? I tried to track down your other posting, but wanted to follow up with you.

Seven10 is a long time partner of EMC's and one of our sweet spots is helping Centera customers move from legacy storage to next-generation EMC platforms - Centera refresh, Isilon, Atmos, VNX, you name it.

If you would like, we can touch base to talk through your environment and how we can help. Please let me know.

Thanks!

Derick

C2C should not really be used anymore - You can add new cubes to the existing clusters then use CICM (Centera intra-cluster migration) to migrate the data from the old cube to the new cube then remove the old cube, or you can install a new cluster and use "restore" to do a full restore of all the data to the new cluster - This would require adding the new cluster into existing replication (chain)

CICM is the easiest way to go

Hi dsmith710,

thanks for your reply and for offer helping.

Since my last posting, I had some another "EMC-Chats" and at this time we have already migrated/restored the objects/files to the new centera Clusters!

Kindly Regards,

Robert

The application vendor (Symantec) should be able to assist you with obtaining an application clip list from their application.

Once generated, EMC Support should be engaged to assist in copying this list directly onto the Centera and then running Integrity Checker (IC).  EMC Support can then use the output of IC to compare the list of clips found on the Centera to the application clip list to ensure everything got migrated.

Hi Dennis,

thanks for your reply - we decided us to use the Restore-Procedure (partial). The reason for it is, that the old 2nd Cluster was in another Country and both new Clusters should stay in the Country, where the 1st old Cluster is running.

The reason for partial restore - we had some pools which will be don´t longer used and only the objects/files, which already exists on the Cluster A, before the replication was started, are needed to be restored. All Objects should be restored & replicated to the new Clusters -> have you some experience to get an application clip-list (from Enterprise Vault) -> for comparing the objects/files of the Cluster/pools ? Or have you another idea to go sure that all objects/files were correctly restored/replicated ?
