VNXe Nis error with Redhat
Hoping I've got the correct group/ Forum
Brand new vnxe 3200 , I have set up a multiprotocol file share (both cifs and nis)
my Windows (cifs) side works great no issues.
ON my NIS master (Solairs) I mount the file share just fine no issues
on one of my Redhat NIS boxes I cannot. Only error from the Redhat side is the mount timed out
However on the VNX box im getting 3 errors
the nis client is unable to connect to the NIS server (server ip) : RPC Bind
there is no server online for the domain solar (Solar is my nis domain name)
the nis server (ip address) is online
No Events found!

Are you using NIS for your NFS export ?
Try exporting to an IP address – maybe that NIS error is a red herring

yes NIS is my NFS Authentication protocol
Not 100% sure what you mean by export to an IP. I have attempted to mount the NAS server IP address and I get the same errors.
I found out yesterday that if I don't list my NIS server, or if I list it incorrectly the Share actually works for redhat, the CIFS share breaks however because it cant authteticate to the NIS server.
So for some odd reason the issue seems to be with contacting the NIS master.

Well – NFSv2/3 doesnt really authenticate
All the VNX server does is to make sure that the client’s IP has the permission for mount/access/read/write
In case you are using hostnames in the export clause then we would use DNS or NIS to do a reverse lookup of the IP to a name
So if you export to the IP we should be ok with a non-working NIS
Other use if NIS would be if you are using multi-protocol to resolve UID to Unix username

First thing I want to mention... You talk about an export clause. Which to me is an actual statement, this is actually for an VNXe.... which is all done via Unisphere gui....
Mutli-Protocol to resolving UID to Unix name is exactly what we are attempting to do .
as I mentioned, when I take out the NIS domain, or type it incorrectly then the NFS mounts work. ... However it breaks the Multiprotocol on the windows side
and apparently when I put it in correctly then the EMC cannot find the NIS domain. When I enter the "Domain" for the NIS domain do you know how its supposed to be formatted? for me my NIS domain is Solar, and I have the IP address of my NIS server in there.
does that sound correct?
