VNX Home Directory: different name for \\cifsserver\HOME possible?

hi,

i'm about to migrate - among others - user shares from netapp to VNX5300 unified. the customer used to use the autohome feature on the netapp and currently maps the users' home directories in AD with \\ntapcifs\username. on the VNX, the user directories are mappable through \\vnxcifs\users$\username or - with home directory feature turned on -  through \\vnxcifs\HOME for any given user (just 1 Domain, so in MMC i just did a "domainname\*" for home directory pointing to \users which works fine.

now they have their logon profiles pointing to \\ntapcifs\username which they apparently have to change to \\vnxcifs\HOME which is not basically an issue. but they have other filers in their HQ, currently being migrated to ISILONs where also the home directory feature is being utilized, but here, they use \\isiloncifs\users as common namespace for users' homedirectories, so they change their AD logon scripts likewise.

they don't want to have different logon procedures for their locations and would like to have "users" instead of "HOME" on the VNX as well.

is there a way to change the name of the HOME-share that the VNX throws out?

thanks,

W.

I am not exactly sure but what you can try is creating the file system with a different name in this case “users” and then map that path for users in the AD.

So when user will make use of this path we can check what is the dir name created for that user.  Let me know if this is what you are looking for.
