VNX block as additional storage a Celerra with control LUNs on CX4
Hi all,
e-lab says that having a NS-G8 to front a VNX block is supported, as long as DART is at a compatible version. However, I've a few Celerras fronting CX4s that require additional storage. The control LUNs are hosted by the CX4s, and I need to know whether it is possible to add a VNX block to the same Celerra. Is this possible? I think it probably is, but need advice on whether I should pursue this as a viable option. Does anyone foresee any issues with this?
Also, would a new storage pool would have to be created for the additional VNX storage?
This is a tactical solution to resolved immediate capacity issues, whilst the strategic storage tech is decided upon. Migration to the VNX is not an option for the tactical solution, as each NAS/array forms part of shared managed storage platforms for multiple external customers.
cheers, Scott

From Elab:
The only supported way to connect a VNX Block Storage Array to a VG2 or VG8 (NS-G8) is VNX File OE 7.0 and 7.1
VNX File OE 7.0 or 7.1 would also support Flare 02.26, 03.26, 04.30, ....
But there is no DART 6.x supporting Block OE 05.31 (which is minimum for VNX)
So in order to connect the NS-G8 to a CX4 and a VNX Block you need VNX File OE 7.x, but this means Control Luns on VNX ....
No idea, if a RPQ would give a better solution?

Does that mean that it is supported regardless of where the control LUNs are located?
Also, would a new storage group have to be created to accommodate the additional storage from the new array?

Hi Peter, I'm not exactly that experienced at e-lab, but the page generated by e-lab called NAS Gateway Connectivity lists the following, which suggests to me that it is supported. Unless I'm not interpreting this correctly.

uups, sorry for my mistake, you are right.
starting with NAS 6.0.60 it does support VNX block (05.31).
So you can connect the NS-G8 to a CX4 and a VNXat the same time.

yes from the Elab, it does not matter where the control luns are located.
If you add the VNX, you need to register the NS-G8 datamovers and create a storagegroup including the ALUs. And to avoid any issues, use HLUs not less than 16!
