Root Account locked out
We have a EMC Celerra NS-480 and somehow the root account got locked out. We only have access through a nasadmin account, which doesn't have root priveleges. Is there any way we can unlock that account, because without it we're pretty much dead in the water.
Thanks...

everything that i see in the knowledge base points to "Contact support for assistance". Is this under a support contract ?

That's what I was afraid of, I keep coming across the same thing. I'm not sure if it still has support or not, I'm going to have to start digging that up next. I just recently got involved with these EMCs.

Do you know what the root password was? If yes and the password was just mis-typed or caplocks were on then after 15 minutes (I usually wait 30 minutes) the account should unlock and allow you to attempt again.
Otherwise, open a support ticket.

I did know the password, however it doesn't seem to be unlocking. Unless someone else got in there messing around and changed it when we were troubleshooting a different problem the other day. Hopefully there's a way to back door it and change the password without root access.

Unfortunately, if the password has changed then you will need to open a ticket with EMC support. We do have a procedure for resetting the root password but it will require onsite presence by an EMC Technical Support Representative. You will want to make sure that support has your correct NAS code level documented in the case as this is required by for a successful password reset.
