Replication and IP change
We have a replication setup between two NS20 devices which is working fine. Now due to Data center migration, we will be moving the remote NS20 device to a different location and as a result I need to change the IP addresses (control station, data mover, CIFS server). Now what will happen to the replicated data on the remote device? Can I continue the replication just by changing the IP addresses?

Hi Avilt,
From what i understand, as long as you don't delete the replication job, you won't lose the checkpoints used to perform the replication. A high level workflow for the move in my opinion would be something like this:
1. Stop the replication on both the source and destination, prior to shutdown (this would be critical. You wouldn't want to shutdown in the middle of a replication)
2. Shutdown
3. Relocate, and change IP address of Control Station
4. Log into control station and Change IP addresses of interfaces on DataMover
5. Re-estable trust either by using nas_cel or the the Gui, under Celerra Network Servers
6. Edit the DataMover Interconnect to use the correct ip addresses
7. Validate the DataMover Interconnect
8. Start the replication
If i were you, i'd open a support call with EMC, and ask them to validate those steps before you put them into concrete as an action plan.

Yes you can, you just need to change the Peer Interface on the DataMover Interconnect.

In Celerra Manager, I have checked 2 tabs "Celerra Network Server" & "Data Mover Interconnects"
When I click on the proprties of existing DMI, it does not give me the option to change the IP address.
What procedure do I need to follow?

Hi Avilt,
After the Celerra was relocated and a new IP address was assigned to the control station, was a trust recreated between the control stations? This can be under the "Celerra Network Server" tab for BOTH control stations. It can also be created by running nas_cel on each control node:
nas_cel -create -ip -passphrase
Run that on both Celerras, so they can both see each other.
Then you should be able to edit/recreate the data mover interconnect. Note that without the trust, you can't really create/edit the interconnect, because the celerras aren't talking to each other. Also be aware, that the interconnect needs to be created on both Celerras, but i believe the GUI does that for you (i can't remember). Just be sure to double check that, and ensure you validate your interconnect.

If you have the necessary DART level I would (just to be safe) also create synced checkpoint (Replicator Incremental Attach).
This way even if you have to delete the replication for some reason you don’t have to do a full transfer

I am still at the planning stage. Currently the 2 devices are in production and I will be moving the DR office NS20 device to a new location. After the move as a first step I will change the control station/SPA/SPB IP addresses. Then how should I proceed? Should I delete the existing trust and DMI on both devices? Appreciate some detailed steps.

I would start with the actual „Using Replicator on VNX manual“ – its got steps for changing addresses
If you don’t know Replicator that well then reading it completely certainly helps

Thank You, understood.
So after creating the trust will I be able to change the DMI properties? I am worried about losing the existing replicated data. How can I make sure after changing the IP addresses, it continues with the replication rather than starting from the scratch?
