Netbackup NDMP backup of Celerra File SYS to tape library unit

Hi. I want to perform a backup of a NFS file sys on the Celerra. I want to backup the data to tape using Netbackup server. So the tape TLU is connected directly to the Netbackup server. Is this possible or does the TLU have to be connected to the Celerra itself in order to do a backup.

Any help on this much appreciated. I have been reading documents on this but can't find a definitive answer.

There are a few ways to backup a NAS filesystem usign NDMP.

Two of them are:

a) attaching a tape drive directly to the datamover. (Filesystem data is send over Fibre Channel to tape, file history over ethernet) (aka NDMP local backup)

b) using a tape drive attached to a backup server. (everything is sent over Ethernet) ("Backup to Media Manager storage units (remote NDMP) ")

This is just dependent on the configuration done in your backup software.

The command sent from the Backup server to the datamover when starting a backup  will tell the datamover, which way to go.

From the "Veritas NetBackup™ for NDMP Administrator’s Guide"

this is called: "Backup to Media Manager storage units (remote NDMP) "
