NAS migration using EMCopy

Hi Team,

we are in process of migration our current NAS infrastructure from Netapp and windows file server to EMC unified VNX array. we will be using EMCopy as the tool for migration. in this regard i have some queries:

  1. How will the quotas be migrated..we have quotas on share level and user level....how will i have the same quotas on the new VNX array. we have more than 3000 users and each user having quotas.
  2. At present we have a file system on windows file server called "my documents" have home directory for each user such that when a user logs in he gets its own home directory mapped to his profile. after we do the migration will there be any changes to this or it will be the same...also while doing the migration is there a way to shift to VNX home directory structure?

Thanks in advance.

1) No file based copy program will copy quotas.

For share quotas – you need to create treequotas on the destination before copying the data

for user quotas you need to create them on the destination

2) Not sure how this currently works – you need to look how your current profiles handles home dir mapping – then either create homedirs manually or look into the VNX file homdir functionality

I don't think we can migrate quotas on the VNX, we have to either write a script or manually add user quotas on the VNX. You can check on google for any third party tool for host based migration of quotas.

Home directory can be migrated, but the path has to be manually changed on the AD.
