Moving NS80 Tape Aux ports to DS300B switch from DS4700M switch
Hi, unfortunately we still have some data on unsupported NS80/DS4700M config and perform a lot of NDMP backups via AUX tape ports to IBM 3584/Lt03 (Using Tivoli Storage Manager).
Also, don't have a great deal of experience in making changes to EMC NS80/switch configs (was installed by EMC a few years ago and not really been touched since).
The data on NS80 will be transferred to new VNX later. Currently just need to transfer tape ports to DS300B switches.
Are there any gotchas I need to look out for??. I've noticed for these connections on the tape library side the Link Speed is set to 2 Gb and topology as L port (whereas existing tapes on same switch connected to a VNX are Auto and Auto(L Port) ). Can't seem to get a green light for these drives when I move to DS300 unless I change to 2Gb and Lport. If I change that, would I have to amend speed set on datamover or is that all automatic. Is it possible to change speed of AUX to switch connections from datamover side?? (if so what is the CLI command to use).
Once all moved and re-zoned on DS300, I know I will have to issue server_devconfig to pick up the drives in new location and get new details for the TSM tape paths. Is there anything else I should be looking out for. Any other CLI commands that may be helpful?? Just trying to plan everything in advance. Thanks in advance.

i think you covered it pretty well. Typically switch port will auto-negotiate to the speed of the system plugged-in into it. I still have 3584/LTO3 myself and they login as 2G to my 8G capable Cisco MDS switch. Some older gear will not negotiate properly and you have to hard-strap the port on the switch side to the match the device as well as device type (Loop in your case). While AUX ports on NS80 are 4G capable, your tape drives are not so you are stuck at 2G.
The TSM part you have covered, once you run server_devconfig you will note the changes in tape/picker numbering (if any) and update device paths in TSM.

Thanks for the reply. I thought we more or less had it covered but with not being too experienced using this kit I thought I'd put the questions out there. Cheers.

Have attempted to implement this, have moved both the NS80 aux ports and tape drives to DS300B switch and zoned them up. Server_devconfig cannot seem to see the tape devices. Have tried
.server_config server_2 –v “fcp portreset=2” but that hasn't worked. Switch side looks fine. Confused!! Do I have to reboot the movers??

Apologies, realised it was my error on the zone config side, please ignore. Thanks.

rebooting datamovers should be your last resort, did you check the flogi ..did it login as F or AL ?
