Is enabling NFS service will disable the CIFS service?
Hi All,
I faced strange issue on my VNX5500 storage box where we created NFS share and enabled NFS service however, after few hours we got issue with CIFS service and we started getting error messages about my DNS client getting 'connection timed out' to my DNS servers. My all CIFS share is not accessible and I found CIFS service is disabled.
Is enabling NFS share will create this whole impact and that is also after few hours? I am unable to digest this and need your expert help to understand the same.
Thanks in advance.

Enabling NFS should not disable CIFS or vice-versa. You can start investigating the issue by looking in the event log on the VNX in Unisphere, or from the Control Station CLI by running server_log. Pay attention to any messages related to the CIFS service around the time you started the NFS service. At the very least, you should open a ticket with EMC to troubleshoot the problem.
Let us know if that helps!

Thanks Carl. I agree to that, however surprisingly EMC only given me this findings and unfortunately my logs got overwrite, however I am trying to find out with some more logs. I also noticed someone from my team created NFS Interface with the IP which is already exist on my Domain. Does this interface will cause disabling CIFS service and impact the DNS Client service on my Data Movers?
Thanks in advance.

Just enabling NFS shouldnt cause this
Please open a service request and get this analyzed by EMC support
The VNX does need properly working name resolution (most often done through DNS) for CIFS and NFS though – so DNS problems can impact both
