How can I resume Celerra Upgrade after it could not complete the first time?

I have an NS480 unified storage system. It was at FLARE 29 and associated 5.x DART and I'm now using USM to upgrade to latest DART 7.x and FLARE 30 for the block side once this completes. The download, health check all passed but half way through the upgrade I got a red X error related to upgrading CONNECT HOME and some type of S**** API code could not be upgraded because the previous version was not supported. I ran the upgrade RETRY several times but always stopped there. I exited the upgrade and the USM and it said I could resume the upgrade at any time. Even gave me a command to type at the CLI which may have either collected some info or performed an action. It did not help anything of course. I could not get the system back to operating state with a control station reboot and now the USM failed right away when I click the UPGRADE option with a vague Message ID  15569321987 and call support. If I login to the CLI control station I am told the box is being upgraded. If I try to run the Celerra manager I get the same.

How can I recover from this upgrade and is this a known issue with Celerra upgrades to FLARE 30 and DART 7?

Right now my Celerra is down and the block CLariion is up and running online. Any advise?

EMC NAS Service is not running due to one of the following reasons:

  1. EMC NAS Service is still starting or there was an error during

     service start-up.

Please logout and try logging in after 5 minutes. It can take up to

15 minutes after Control Station boot for EMC NAS Service to start.

If the problem persists after 3 login retries, please reboot the

Control Station and try again. If this message is still displayed,

       contact EMC Customer Support.

  2. EMC NAS Software upgrade is in progress, which required stopping

     the Service temporarily.

Please DO NOT use the administrative interface while EMC NAS Software

upgrade is in progress. EMC NAS Service starts automatically after

       the upgrade finishes.

Until EMC NAS Service starts, administrative commands and interfaces

will not operate.

Hi DougStorage,

You say you have a Celerra NS480 array... this can be upgraded to NAS (D.A.R.T.) 6.0 code and Flare 30 (Block side).

However, you mention you are attempting upgrade to D.A.R.T. 7.0 ... 7.0 code is for VNX arrays only.

Can you confirm:

1) What exact codes (File and Block) you currently have on Celerra NS480?

2) What codes you are attempting upgrade to?

Hello.

Sorry that was a typo. I am trying to upgrade the Celerra NS-120FC from version 5.6.44.4  to version 6.0.70.4.upg package using USM to login to the NAS IP using nasadmin root account. The block side of the subsystem has not been touched yet. It's a CX4-120 by the properties tab running FL:ARE 4.29.000.5.006 and if I ever get the NAS side upgraded successfully, then I plan on upgrading it to the latest from USM also which appears to be FLARE 30.

Just to restate what happened very clearly.

1. I used USM to download the latest packages for Celerra, NS-480 system using the wizard.

2. I ran the preupgrade health check with no errors.

3. I ran the USM Celerra 6.0.70.4 upgrade which ran the preupgrade health check a second time successfully.

4. Half way through the upgrade it stopped with a red X on upgrading the connect home feature. An error message popped up saying it could not upgrade the SY???? API drivers because the ones on the NAS were too old or not supported.

5. I ran RETRY several times but always came back to same error.

6. Rebooted the control station hoping that would help.

7. Now everytime you login to CLI or Celerra manager it says upgrade in progress

8. If you try to rerun the USM upgrade it says the upgrade is in progress.

I read in the GUI during the initial installation that the Celerra upgrade was saving all old configuration for recovery purposes. I also read the interface stating the upgrade could be cancelled and restarted later. And the upgrade would be smart enough to resume where it left off.

Thank you for any assistance,

D.

Unless you find something in the knowledgebase I would suggest to open a service request or use the customer service live chat

Did you ever get this issue resolved?  I have a VNX file upgrade with similar problem; warning!! upgrade in progress showing on both control stns.  I have attempted to resume the upgrade with no luck, basically the error shows that slot_0 nas service is not started, but this is due to the upgrade.

[root@BALVNX1CS2 account]# /nasmcd/getreason

6 - slot_0 control station ready

10 - slot_1 primary control station

5 - slot_2 contacted

5 - slot_3 contacted
