how can i make sure my newly created FS is backed up
Hello All.
I recently created a FS on request from the customer. The checkpoint is scheduled for the same. Now, how do i bring the checkpoint i created to back up rotation ( we have NDMP b'up configured to Netbackup) ?
Do i 've to make a seperate configuration to get the FS backed up or it will be done automatically.Per my knowledge , every time a Checkpoint is created , that piece is backed up to tape. How can i make sure if this is done for my newly created FS?
I 'll very much appreciate if some one can shed some light on this thisway i can help the Backup guy understand my need.
appreciate your time.

backup tool has to pass a parameter to Celerra saying " Hey Celerra, i need to backup file system "accounting" , can you create a checkpoint for me. Celerra replies and says ..sure ..here is your temporary checkpiont name /account/NDMP/tempblahblah blah". When backup is done your backup application talks to Celerra again "Hey Celerra ..i am done with backup, go ahead and delete temporary checkpoint you created for me, Celerra says ok ..temporary checkpoint is deleted"
does it make sense ?

checkpoints are internal snapshots of primary file system. If you need to make external backups to tape, that needs to be done within your backup application. Many backup application utilize snapshot functionality where they first initiate Celerra checkpoint, send it to tape and then automatically delete it.

If your backup sw is using NDMP and cannot automatically create a checkpoint (ie TSM has no SNAPSURE=yes directive), then there is a parameter you can set on the Data Mover.
Look at 'server_param server_2 -f NDMP' and do an info on 'snapsure' (also available from Unisphere or Celerra Manager)

you don't have to schedule checkpoint for your backup, backup application itself will initiate a checkpoint, back it up to tape and then tell Celerra to delete it. Here is an example of automatically created checkpoint:

Hello again.
I created a file system and designed a share for my customer per the requirement.
While doing this from celerra GUI - i get an option for number of checkpoints to create.
Now my question - when the checkpint is scheduled for "everyday" how many number of checkpoints i need to create?
Is it 7 or just 1? I know these are the "number of checkpoints to keep or create before the checkpoints are
refreshed", but, I am confused on the number of checkpoints to keep .
Since, there's a word of caution-
Do not unmount, refresh, or delete the checkpoint in use by NDMP backup, otherwise
the backup fails.
Does this mean creating only 1 checkpoint?
I want the same checkpoint to be backed up by the backup software . When should i ask the backup team to take the backUp ?
Very much appreciate if someone can shed some light!
thanks in advance.

Dynamox- If i have to keep the checkpoint for 7 days (one week) b'fore its refreshed on 8th day by setting -keep 7
How will i make sure this is backed up by the b'up software ? Do i have to make the Backup guy aware of this so that the checkpoints are backed up externally.
it is mentioned:"Do not unmount, refresh, or delete the checkpoint in use by NDMP backup, otherwise the backup fails"
sorry if the question looks too naive - just not that comfortable with backup tools.
thanks for your time!

Hello everyone!
I need to understand one more thing, Since, i 've 7 checkpoints created ( daily one , and it is refreshed on 8th day).
can some one help me understand how the planning of the backup should be done so that the snapsure is backed up regularly ,externally(such as , running a full backup), in my scenario.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
