Does Celerra have a File Name Length Limit 255 Characters?
We are "EMCopying" data from file server to our Celerra and the process keeps "bombing" with these files that are over 255 characters. Weird you right-click on the file and you don't get properties of the file just other options. However, the question being raised is: Can the Celerra handle file names above 255 characters?
Thanks,
Damian

Hi Damian,
File name length limit on Celerra is 255 charactersfor CIFS and 255 bytes for NFS. With Unicode enabled in a CIFS environment, the maximum number of characters is 255. For filenames shared between NFS and CIFS, CIFS allows 255 characters. NFS truncates these names when they are more than 255 bytes in UTF-8.
Hope this helps,
Sandip

Hi,
In addition what Sandip said, please take a look at primus KB emc96416 "When using EMCopy to migrate or copy data, the process exits when it gets to files of length greater than 255 bytes."
Gustavo Barreto.
