Creating NFS exports for Redhat server

Hello Guys,

I am totally new to EMC celerra. Can anyone let me know, how do I create a NFS export share to couple of redhat servers in my environment.

If any one can let me know some steps, or any documented manual for that, it would be really appreicated.

Thank You

Rama

yes - if you want some space exported that doesn't exist yet than you need to create the file system first

the GUI has a wizard that can do this together with the export

on the NFS client side it depends how you do the mount - if you use the normal Unix mount command the it would normally not survive a reboot

you need to use the client GUI or put it into a config file like /etc/dfstab to get it automatically mounted again after a reboot

There some good books and online resources about NFS out there - I would recommend NFS for dummies or Hal Stern Managing NFS and NIS from o'Reilley

Please go through the document from the powerlink for "Configuring NFS on Celerra"

Home > Support > Technical  Documentation and Advisories > Hardware/Platforms  Documentation > Celerra  Network Server > General Reference

Here you can find the document for other config's as well.

Or – if you are familiar with NFS exports on any other Unix/Linux box – just do a “man server_export”

Most of the options are the same – you just need to start with “server_export server_2 –Pnfs …”

If you want to go the GUI route – Powerlink has some video’s showing that with Celerra Manager

Try doing it in the GUI and then “cheat” with “tail /nas/log/cmd_log” to see which CLI options it used J

Hello Guys,

Thanks for the information. Its kind of confusing, since I dont have any knowledge on Celerra.

But I really found this really cool pdf, which explain how to create a nfs export and how to mount it to unix or linux server.

http://corpusweb130.corp.emc.com/ns/common/post_install/configure_NFS_NaviExpress.pdf

But I needed to ask some question. Every time, I need to create a NFS export, first I need to create a file system. Then use that file system to create a NFS share and then export it. And after doing that, on the server side mount the particular NFS export to a mount point. And you are done. Please correct me if I am wrong.

And also one thing. When I mount particular share on the server. for example a nfs export share on a server.  I do a reboot on a server. Do I need to do some configuration changes before I do the reboot.

Thank You

you might want to put nfs export in /etc/fstab so that nfs exports get mounted automatically at boot time. Google for NFS export in fstab.

welcome to Celerra

you might also want to try

server_mount ALL

server_df ALL

server_export ALL

to see what you've currently got configured

and you don't have to reboot your Linux server, simply create mount point on Linux server and mount export from Celerra.
