Celerra NS-120
Hi Experts,
I need to power off properly and power on a Celerra NS-120 and I have some questions.
I did find the procedures, but my question is, which kind of serial cable do I need?
A special EMC cable? a null modem Male- Fermale? Fermale-Female?
Do I need to login as nasadmin and nasadmin?
Please advice.
Thanks
Didac

A working serial cable if shipped with every Celerra system
1. Connect null modem serial cable from Workstation COM1/COM2 to front serial port on the NS40/NS80 Control Station
2. Configure Hyperterminal connection for the Control Station using the following settings:
Name of connection; Connect using: COM1 or COM2; Bits per second: 19200 Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Flow Control:
None (verify that Autodetect & ANSI are selected for terminal emulation)
3. Click on Hyperterm ‘Call’ icon to connect to Control Station & login at the prompt

Well,
I am trying to have some guidance on how should I power down the unit cleanly and power it up again.
Per instructions:
Before you power down the Celerra NS-120, be sure to notify all users of the planned
powerdown.
2. To perform a planned powerdown, you should be in close proximity of the server.
Log in to the Control Station as root by using a Hyper Terminal session.
• From the Start Menu, select Programs > Accessories > Communications > Hyper Terminal.
• Enter a session name and click OK.
• Select the COM port that the cable connects to in the Connect Using box and click OK.
• Enter the following port settings:
Bits per second: 19200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Flow Control: None
Emulation: Auto Detect
Telenet terminal ID: ANSI
3. Verify

Hi Dynamox
Thanks for your response.
OK I see the full manual now.
It stills does not say if I need a serial cable and which kind, NULL MODEM, M-F, F-F?
Need to shutdown the unit tonight in a few hours.
Thanks

Sameer,
Thanks for the information.
Could you please let me know if I do need a NULL Modem cable Female-Female or Male-Female?
Customer confirmed and let me know that the last time they shutdown the unit was via serial cable.
Thanks
Didac

i never needed to use the serial cable, just ssh into the contorl station
/nasmcd/sbin/nas_halt now
and then follow the steps for backend Clariion.

Hi,
please refer the guide for power down and power up instructions, "Celerra Network Server Operations" which is available from the powerlink location :

as mentioned by dynamox, there is no need of serial connection to the control station,
you can ssh into the CS and run the commands or follow the steps as mentioned in the document.
