Cannot access CIFS Shares after re-adding DC roles to Server 2008

I have a 2 domain controller environment, both running Windows Server 2008.

One of the DCs had the basic roles removed, (AD, DNS, and DHCP) to do some testing. The server itself is pretty clean with no other software on it.

Once I readded the roles back (about 3 weeks later), the server will not allow users connect to our EMC CIFS shares. Access to other Windows shares connect just fine.

When users who are connected to this DC, try to connect to our EMC CIFS, they get prompted for user credentials (which is not normal) and after they type in their correct credentials, they get an Access is Denied error.

Any idea on why this is broken? Everything worked fine before removing the roles but now after re-adding them, it does not work properly.

I would try re-joining the CIFS server to the domain

Also try running nas_checkup

I thought about rejoining it, but everything already works fine with the first DC (which never had its roles removed). Does that make a difference? Only users connected this re-added DC cannot connect.

Does the DC show up when running the following command:

.server_config ALL -v "pdc dump"

It is possible that you will need to manually add it (or could be resolved as Rainer suggested by unjoin and rejoining).

btw, I would classify this similar to the following:
