Best sizing for Symmetrix luns to provision with Celerra NS-G2 gateway

I am trying to migrate File Systems on Celerra NS-G2 from VMAX 20K(old) to VMAX 10K(new). I will be using Celerra Replicator V2. To do so, I will need to create Storage Pools on NS-G2 from VMAX 10K. I was wondering, is there a best practice for sizing Symmetrix luns with Celerra NS-G2 gateway.

The VMAX 10K does not support thick luns. Hence, I will need to use 100% preallocated thin luns. Please advice on sizing Symmetrix luns.

Thanks

Some of the answers to your question are available in the document "Configuring Symmetrix for Celerra".  This is only available to EMC employees, so ask your TC or SE.  While it's more geared toward the specific configuration, it has important rules about FAST VP and such.  From an older version of this document, it also says that any size Symmetrix LUN - thick or thin - can be used, so long as it ends on a even cylinder boundary.  Your TC can get you a recent copy and more information as well.

Let us know if that helps!

Several EMC World presentations have focused on VNX optimizations for performance.  If you haven't done so, reach out to your local USPEED representative.  If you're looking for more performance from the TDEVs on your 10K, they could recommend a better Pool layout/configuration that might be what you need.

Thanks for the information. I have the "Configuring The Symmetrix for Celerra(v10.4)" document with me. It does not mention any information about data lun sizing and usage of FAST VP on VMAX. However, I was able to get information on sizing for Celerra luns.

The Primus(emc249802) says that FAST is not supported with Celerra luns on VMAX. I am quite disappointed with this.

what are the sizes in vmax20K you have configured? If you are migrating it to vmax 10k, please do have the same size of pools which are presented from vmax 20k.
