administrator group emptied out

Here is the situation:

For some reason in the administrator group there was double of every group.  I removed the copies and hit apply.  When i checked to see if they were clear and only had one of each...the entire administrator group was empty and now i cant do anything...

Any ideas at all of how i can fix this situation.  I already tried to go back into my CIF server and i turned on local users which created an administrator group and put it in the administrators group that was emtpy...but i dont know how to use that local admin to put the other groups back in since i cant really log into the CIF server with a local admin

Any help would be a lifesaver, thank you!

To use the local administrator credential you will first need to “change” the password after its initial creation via the server_cifs commands or enabling local users via the gui. You will need to do Ctrl-Alt-Delete from a Windows workstation that has network access to the CIFS server. Select change password and instead of using your Domain\User which is usually pre-populated change it to \Administrator.

Now set the workstation to use this identity when accessing the cifs server.

net use

I already set and know the local administrator password, i created it through the GUI in the unisphere.  Would you mind going a little more into detail on how i set my workstation to use that identity?

Thank You so much for the help!  This is really going to save me!

Understood. However the password after being set on initial creation MUST be changed through Windows as I previously described. I do believe it can be changed to the same password though. This is also stated in the documentation.

In order to set your machine that you which to manage the CIFS server’s local group from you must tell your system to use the local administrator and password. Since though the Computer Manager MMC there is only a way to select a computer to manage but not a way to select the credential you would like to use to manage it you must use the “net use” command via windows cli to create a “connection” to this server using the local administrator acoount of the CIFS server

Assume my CIFS server is named PATRIOT.

C:\>net use
PATRIOT
PATRIOT> /user:PATRIOT\Administrator

I do not know of a way to reset the password through Windows CLI. I have only had to use the method I described earlier. If you continue to have issues with the local admin account I would suggest opening an SR with EMC Support and see if they can assist. I believe they may have a method to force reset a lost/forgotten/broken local admin password.

Just to make sure we are on the same page though you ..

1) Enabled local users for the cifs server via Unisphere and set the password to something

2) Used CTRL-ALT-DEL > Change password > user CIFSSERVER\Administrator .. old password connect to another computer..

Correct?

After you reset the password are you able to map a network drive to
cifsserver\c$
cifsserver\c$> connect as > local administrator account?
