M640 Emulex LPm16002 port status

Hello!

We have a problem with M640 servers in M1000e chassis.

Periodically iDRAC reporting that port down and after 5 seconds port up.

FC switches doesn't have any link fail. Seems like iDRAC get incorrect port status 5 seconds.

1st switch.

2nd switch.

Please can someone help with this problem?

Firmware versions:

iDRAC 7.00.00.174

BIOS 2.22.2

Emulex LPm16002 03.00.14

Hello,

you are right last version is 03.00.14

in the BIOS can you change some parameters on the card?

For example try to force speed to 16Gb speed.

Hello!

I think that it doesn't help.
Cause port not switch off physically. (no port errors).
Seems like iDRAC request port status every 5 seconds and sometimes it get status down.
Is it possible somehow influence at this requests?

Hello,

Even though the FC switches don't show any link failures, it's worth checking the physical connections and cables to ensure there are no intermittent issues.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, you might need to contact Dell support for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your setup and the logs from your system.

Hello!

I cannot check physical connections and cables because M640 servers connected to switches via midplane.

Yes it could be some issue on the midplane. Can you contact tech support?

Hello!

I can not contact tech support.

Also I was review vmkernel log. And there not present any message about port link reset.
Error present only in iDRAC.
Can you explain what reason of this behavior.

Wildgunman,

Based on the details you provided, the issue is most likely due to iDRAC misreporting transient link status rather than an actual Fibre Channel connectivity problem. If the FC switches and OS logs show no errors, the system is functionally stable. So if the FC link is stable and no I/O errors are observed, this may be a cosmetic issue. If that is the case then you can suppress or filter these alerts in iDRAC or your monitoring system.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello,

Can you help, how I can supress these alerts in iDRAC?

And what means transient link status?

A Transient link status refers to a temporary or momentary change in the reported state of a network link, typically from up to down and back to up again, without any actual physical or logical disruption in its connectivity.

If you got an alert on it, then you should be able to go back into the idrac go to the alerts page and drill down the category to that alert type and disable it.

Hello,

yes it is correct, if you disable an alart you won't receive that alert in case of a real connectivity problem.

Thanks

Hello!

Maybe exist an option to reduce the sensitivity of the triggering this alert? :)

Hello,

unfortunately it doesn't currently offer a user-configurable setting to adjust the sensitivity for port status alert.
