M610 memory upgrade, mix 1.5v and 1.35v DIMMs
Hi folks!
I have some M610 blades, all of twelve slots filled with 8GB DIMMs ( XG2VK ) that seems to be 1.5V memory modules. I plan to replace one DIMM in each channel by 16GB modules p/n A6996789 that seems to be 1.35v modules. Will it works this way? Can I mix modules of 1.35v with 1.5v modules, suposing that the Low Voltage modules will work at 1.5v in this case?
The configuration planned is:
Slots A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3 => New 16GB DIMMs 1.35V
Slots A4, A5, A6, B4, B5, B6 => Old 8GB DIMMs 1.5V
Independent Channel Mode (Optmizer mode)
Thanks in advance,
MCCcoelho

Hello,
Looking through the documentation, I haven't seen anything to indicate that you can't mix 1.5v and 1.35v (assuming the DIMMs are otherwise the same, excluding the noted capacities). What I have seen create issues most frequently is the mixing of RDIMMs, UDIMMs, and/or LR-DIMMs. If the layout you listed doesn't work, you might try installing DIMMs as pairs per channel. For example. there are channels 0, 1, and 2 for both A and B. Channel 0 is 3 and 6, channel 1 is 2 and 5, and channel 2 is 1 and 4, you might test like DIMMs in channels, but mirror the config in each bank.
One important note is that this config is not listed in the table I show for supported configs. The table uses all like DIMMs and no mixed capacities. With it being not officially supported, I don't have the documentation to say it would definitely work, but I think it would likely work.
