Need Guidance on CPU–GPU Bottlenecks Affecting Storage Performance in Workstations
I’m analyzing performance issues on a workstation where heavy applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, and some light 3D work) are causing high storage latency, especially during large file operations. Before assuming it’s an SSD or controller issue, I’m checking whether a CPU–GPU bottleneck might also contribute to slow storage I/O under load.
To estimate the CPU/GPU balance, I used an online bottleneck analysis tool (bottleneckcalculator.us) just to get a rough idea of how the processor handles GPU-intensive tasks alongside disk operations.
My questions for Dell experts and storage professionals:
Can an unbalanced CPU–GPU pairing indirectly affect storage responsiveness during heavy workloads?
Is there any known scenario where CPU saturation reduces storage throughput on Precision workstations?
For systems with mid-range CPUs and high-end GPUs, what impact (if any) have you seen on NVMe or RAID performance?
Any recommended baseline specs for balanced workstation builds that avoid these kinds of bottlenecks?
I would really appreciate guidance or any real-world experience from the community.
Thanks in advance!
