Why is the value of used + free capaicty in protection domain different from total capacity?
Hello,
I'm looking at the PFxM Dashboard and have a question.
Why does the used capacity + free capacity value in the Protection Domain not match the Total Capacity value?
If spare capacity or another value is reserved, what is the field name?
It would be great if you could link to the official documentation that I can refer to.
Thank you.

Hello,
I am not sure of any documentation off hand as this can vary by the model, but some info I can share is as follows.
Some variances in this can be accounted for by metadata usage and by the effects of indexing. Both of these will be a sort of overhead that takes away from the usable capacity showing; especially when comparing against the licensed capacity. If the Data Domain is a "DDVE" there is further overhead used by the VM resources. This article explains this a bit: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000064210
Something else to consider when viewing licensed capacity is the difference in how TB (terabytes) vs TiB (tebibytes) are calculated. For example 96TB is equal to 87.3TiB.
You can see capacity in further details from the Data Domain CLI shell using commands, "df", "storage show all" and "elicense show"
Hope this helps!
