VMWare Level Backup using Avamar
Attached is my design of current architecture we are proposing
- This was the design for the environment, I understand VMWare level backup requires an Vcenter to communicate from Avamar
- Understanding the architecture of VMWare backup , Proxy will be on ESXi and snap shot will get created on the data store .
- Now Lerma ESXi is managed by Mexico Vcenter .
- If I need to configure to VMWare level backup of Lerma which should reside on Lerma Avamar node itself .
- If I am not wrong and as per my understanding of VMWare level architecture , Campus Avamar will communicate to Mexico Vcenter and Vcenter will communicate to proxy which is residing on Lerma ESXi and Vcenter will create a snapshot on the data store which on Datastore which is on Campus storage, once the snapshot is created on Campus data store again Vcenter will initate to proxy to carry that Avamar which is on Campus itself , If I am not wrong .
- My understanding is only the communications has to happened between Lerma Avamar & Mexico Vcenter and rest snapshot creation will happened on Lerma itself ? correct me if I am wrong
Thanks in advance

you need to integrate all the Avamars with the vcenter in Mexico. The proxy would be physically in Lerner and the VM in question would backup to the Avamar in Lerner. If you wanted the backup to then be in Mexico then you'd replicate it.

understand however that you must integrate all remote avamars with the vcenter in Mexico to make this work.

you are correct in your understanding if the proxy resides in Lerma and you are only trying to backup a VM in Lerma that resides on a datastore that the proxy there has access to.

Thanks Nixonm for the clarification . so, the local backup will not get impacted and the backup will not be a WAN Backup right . Please do let me know

if you manage the backup from the avamar locally it will be a local backup, do not import the VM into the avamar in Mexico.
