Separate Proxy Server Groups for Backups with Auto Proxy Mapping Selected
Goal is to create two Proxy groups of proxy servers PROD and DMZ that are independent environments as so to allow Auto Proxy Mapping for only those selected groups
Using the Desktop Avamar Client:
Avamar Policy >> Policy Management >> Clients (tab) >> PROXIES. : (This is where all the proxy servers live.)
For this example, we will say there are (5) Proxies for Prod and (5) Proxies for DMZ with a total of (10) Proxy servers. The goal is to have (2) different collections. PROXIES-PROD & PROXIES DMZ contain the allocated servers above for Auto Proxy Mapping selection inside a policy.
Avamar Policy >> Policy Management >> Groups (tab) >> BACKUP-POLICY >> VM-BAKGRP-DMZ (edit) >> Proxies (tab)
This is were the proxies for this group / backup are selected individually, total of (10). Not selecting Auto Proxy Mapping. Reason being that the DMZ proxies live else where and has ACLs IN & OUT which slows down connections. If only PROD Proxies are used for DMZ transfer, with the (5) servers it will not complete in the (10) hour window. But If we place the proxy servers inside the ESXi L3 environment, Avamar can tell vCenter which proxy to use, vCenter mounts to the inside proxy, then transfers to the data domain on the inside. This allows for only one pass of the ACL and the environment can be backup with (1) proxy well under the (10) hour window.
The problem lies with adding new servers to the backup policies whether it is with the PROD or DMZ. Since Auto Proxy Mapping is not select, it will unselect the proxy all selected proxies inside the group the new server added to. After adding the server to the policy, you must go back into the policy and select the appropriate proxy servers. Else the nightly backups will fail due to no proxy server being selected. This has happened multiple times from users not knowing or forgetting this process.
The Proxy Group PROXIES-BAKGRP-DMZ was created and moved the corresponding Proxy Servers into the group. Inside the Backup Policy >> Proxies, the servers are still present with the new group location under "Names"(PROXIES-BAKGRP-DMZ/PROXYDMZ01.corp.com) but Auto Proxy is still selecting them for use in the full environment.
For this reason, we are looking for a solution for separating the Proxy Server groups in order to allow for the Auto Proxy Mapping to be selected for the corresponding group.
After reviewing multiple documents as solution was unable to be found and looking for any help.
Thank you.
