Replicate to multiple Data Domains

Hi

We have 2 onsite Avamar servers, each of which has a local DD attached. On the Avamar servers is also connected to a DD in the cloud, which is the default for replication.

So, Server1 backs up our VMs to DD1. A replication job on Server1, then replicates the traffic over to Server2, which stores it on the Cloud DD, as this is the default replication destination.

I now want to implement a replication job to replicate from Server1/DD1 to Server2/DD2 while retaining the existing replication to the cloud. Is this possible? How do I do this? Or must I have an Avamar instance in the cloud to do this?

If I use storage mappings on Server2, then replication job on Server1 replicates to DD2 and there is no replication to the cloud.

I feel this should be achievable but I'm fairly new to Avamar and I've inherited this configuration. Essentially, I want replicate to both the cloud DD and DD2, so how do I do this?

Thanks

Roy

Hello.

I don't think you can create two different Replication jobs where the target Avamar places the replication data on two different DD's. I don't have that kind of setup to test this. Perhaps open a case with Dell and ask them?

If you check the Storage Mapping settings on Avamar2, you can specify DD for different replication domains, but I think it's "one DD per Replication Source". A single Avamar system can be a replication target for multiple Avamars and this setting is more for a scenario where replication target has multiple DD's.

I think the only course is to have an extra Avamar VM that has the cloud DD as its storage backend, and then create an additional replication job on the SRV1 to the 3rd Avamar. Avamar replication is always orchestrated between two Avamar systems.

Data Domains have a built-in replication function where you can replicate the Avamar MTree to the Cloud DD, but that is unsupported scenario, and I don't know what is the procedure to recover if the primary DD fails.
