New Mac clients need to be added to correct group in console.

Hey All, I have inherited an OLD issue and I would appreciate some insight into why it is happening just on the Macbooks in our fleet.

The Windows clients from installation, activation to backups etc are all 100% working fine.

When we deploy a new MacBook, install the Avamar client on it, then go to activate it we use the parameters for example:

Server address is: XYZ same as we do for the Windows clients.

Server port: same as we do for Windows clients.

Client Domain for the Mac: /clients/XYZ_Default/Mac

You can activate the client just fine but it won't allow you to backup anything until you log into the console:

Policy Management > Clients > search for the MacBook > edit the client > groups > show sub-groups >

This is what a new macbook activation looks like:

I then have to go and manually add this one:

Once you do this - only then will it allow you to backup data from that Macbook.

I think this has something to do with Adminstration > Profiles but after that I am lost and if you do have some suggested fixes please make those easy to follow. Thanks all.

It is true that a backup will not occur unless the server is IN a backup group policy.

There must be something setup for you windows registrations that auto add it to a policy.

but not setup for the MAC.

I have never done this,  I manually add my servers to each group policy because I have more than one for windows.

look at your config for the windows policy and compare to your mac policy.

do that by going to Tools, look at Rules and Datasets.  Also look at documentation for something like auto add.

Maybe someone who does auto add can comment.
