Move from HP DataProtector + DD to Avamar + DD ?

Hi,

A customer want to change from HP DataProtector with DD to Avamar DD.

Is there a way to recover data from DP to AVAMAR ?

We want to change DataDomain and be able to restore data from old backup software during retention time

Any help will be appreciate

No. HP DP and Avamar and most every other backup application uses different file formats for their object backups. Even though most of the "block" data is similar between different backup files, the way each vendor encapsulates the data (and metadata) are unique.

When Avamar is integrated with DD, the setup process will create a new, unique mtree for Avamar to write its backups. This mtree won't affect any backups that already exist on the DD. You HP DP backups will remain as they are, until they expire. Your customer will need to keep HP DP around and operating until all the backups expire. There's no way for Avamar to recover data from the HP DP backups.
