Metadata DAEs for Avamar + DD Cloud Tiering

After a dicussion with an EMC representative, we came to the conclusion that my Avamar Gen4T and DD 4200 environment could have an addition 2x ES30 DAEs attached creating a total of 5x ES30s. This would be the currently maximum allowed local capacity, but we could then increase the overall capacity with Cloud Tiering.

We have been considering this option, but one configuration that the representative could not determine was related to the metadata DAEs required for Cloud Tiering. According the the representative and my research, 2 DAEs required to hold the cloud metadata.

  1. Do those DAEs need to be included in the same SAS chain as the rest of the storage?
  2. If all DAEs need to be in the same SAS chain, can we have 5x DAEs connected for local storage and 2x for the metadata or are we limited to 3 DAEs for local storage if we want to configure Cloud Tiers?

Thanks in advance for any answers

Since this question seems to be about the storage on the DD side (Avamar nodes have internal storage and do not use DAEs), I suspect you might get more / more helpful responses if you move your question to the Data Domain community.
