Looking for faster restore process on new Avamar system

We recently had an Avamar / Data Domain system installed.  It was configured by a Dell deployment technician, and is currently backing up our servers.

I'm looking for a faster restore process.  We've tried the Avamar Restore web ui, and the Avamar Administrator console.  Both are slow, especially to index the files in the backup.  Using our previous backup system I could start a restore in about 30 seconds.  This new Avamar takes a minimum of 3 minutes just to start a restore.  In particular, the "file level restore" selection sits there for a couple minutes, and these are not large servers.  I am constantly restoring files from various backups, so this adds considerably to time spend doing restores.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I can see why there are no replies.  This is the worst and slowest backup system it's ever been my displeasure to have to restore files on.  I've never used such a convoluted and difficult system.  If you're looking for a backup system, I do not recommend Dell Avamar, look elsewhere.  Our old Datto system was 10 times better than this.

Is the Java GUI overwall very sluggish or just the part where you are looking backups and selecting what needs to be restored?  I've seen where an older Java version was causing incredibly slow performance, had to install the version that is listed on the Avamar server itself, under Download section (https://avamarserver)

We're using the java console downloaded from the server, which is only a couple months old.  v.19.1.0-38

Looking thru backups and selecting what to be restored, as well as selecting a restore location, is what's frustratingly slow.  I do 20+ restores on a busy day, so the added 5 minutes per restore really adds up.

Dell hasn't been able to provide any guidance on a faster process.  Hoping someone with more experience and knowledge has found a faster way to restore files on Avamar than going through the method Dell has given us.

Thank you.

How about the newer HTML5 Web Interface? https://avamarserver/aui

It only took a couple of minutes for me to restore a file on my laptop. We're using Avamar with DD as well.

From the main page, select Asset Management  (2nd icon from the top on the left bar), select the Avamar Domain and then the client. Click restore, then go through the wizard.

The restore itself started fairly quickly.

Thank you for the suggestion.  We've found that the web ui is the fastest method.  However, the steps we've been shown have two lengthy delays.  At the "File Level Restore" selection slider, it stops for 2 - 4 minutes before the directory structure is shown.  Then at "Select Path" to choose a restore location, the process stops for another minute or two, and about half the time displays drive letters A - Z, with no basis in reality.  Several times both steps I mention never continue, and we have to refresh the page and start over.

In fact, the restore I'm attempting right now has stopped at "Select Path" at a blank white screen.  I'll have to refresh to start over.

That being said, it's still faster than the Java console.  That takes 7+ minutes just to show available restore points.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you.
