Im trying to add a DD 5.5 to avamar 7.1. and i keep getting error Summary: Unable to add trap host to Data Domain system . The weird part is that you can see all the configurations made in DD.

Figured it out.  the local_hfs_addr in the mcserver.xml file was a shortname.  in 7.1 they require a FQDN.  Also in Avamar 7.1 snmp trapd is disabled it needs to be enable.  Once i got through these steps in worked.

Have you turned on SNMP and set a community up on the DD?

I ran into the same issue and resolved it by going to the SNMP tab inside the Add DD window and changing the Trap Port number from 163 to 162.

Hi,

Have you enabled SNMP version 2 or version 3?

Create a read-only community string in SNMP v.2 and enter the same community string while integrating DD with Avamar. Also ensure that you have proper reverse and forward lookup entries for Avamar and DD in your DNS.

This should sort it out.

Good Luck!!!

In the Avamar Add DD popup GUI, try changing the Trap Port from the default of 163 to 162 or something different.

Also, if you have a putty session open on the DD, run the command: log watch messages

When you are trying to add the DD in the Avamar GUI, you should see some action in the messages file on the DD putty session. This might help to find what is going on.

I have met same situation, and solved by changing Trap port from 163 to 162(try 163 first then 162 and both records will be written down to DD SNMP page).

Do anyone know why this happened?
