How to do a reverse replica from an avamar grid to another?
Hi all,
does anybody knows how can I take the replica content from an Avamar Grid Gen4 into another Avamar Grid Gen4s? or is it possible?
Nowadays, we have an Avamar GEN4S on production with backups and we replicate some information to an Avamar GEN4. The thing is that we want to take the replica on the Avamar GEN4 to the Avamar GEN4S (we will replace the GEN4S for a new solution). Can I replicate the replica?

look into the manuals on replication,
I kind of remembering that you can replicate in steps
a ->b->c
but I have never done it, but I know I read about it in a manual

Are you looking to simply "cross replicate"? A cross replicating Avamar system is one where both systems back up clients directly and replicate that data to their replication partner to protect each other's backups.
If yes, that is possible and requires no special configuration. Just configure replication on the Gen4 system and have it send backups to the Gen4S. They will appear on the Gen4S under /REPLICATE/
If you're just looking for a way to store the contents of Gen4 so that you can later deploy a Gen4S to replace it you would be better off just waiting until the Gen4S is available and arranging for Professional Services to perform a system migration (also known as root to root replication) to effectively duplicate the data on the new system. The Gen4 can then be decommissioned.
The method J.H. - end user mentioned is discussed in KB 490258
This doesn't sound like an appropriate use of that replication method if the Gen4 will soon be decommissioned.

Hi guys, thanks for you advices.
The mean issue is that in Gen4 only resides replica data, and the KB you just mention says that we can do a cascade replication which seems to work for us. I will give it a try and I will let you know if it worked for me.
For now, I'm just wondering if there would be a problem if the production Gen4S can have the replica back from the Gen4.
