how to change expiration date of backups from indefinite to a expiration date on a MC_RETIRED client
I have a avamar client that I am retiring so it will go to MC_RETIRED domain. But I want to keep the backups indefinitely. This client is not being used but the files on there need to be kept and archived. it is a 2003 windows server so sometimes the avamar backup does not work. once the files have been archived to another server, How can I go and change the expiration date from indefinite to an actual date?

In MCS GUI, go to Backup And Restore and select the Manage tab. highlight the /MC_RETIRED domain and click on your client in the list below. In the right panel, select "by date range", and give it a range that includes the dates of objects you want to modify. Find the object below, right-click, "change expiration date", and select "No end date".

Hi,
Go to "Backup & Restore" window. Now search for the client under MC_Retired domain.
Once you find it, Select the client, Choose "Manage" tab in right side, Choose a backup date. Then choose the backed up data, right click and you will see options to change retention period and expiration date.
Regards,

don't make things so difficulte - go the easy route
when you go to retire the server in the administration gui
you get that nice pop up window before you say ok
look at it, it gives you 3 options
Reatain local backups with existing expiration dated
Retain all local backup indefinitely
Reset local backup Expiration date
(don't know why but it never allows me to change the remote backup copies - maybe an emc person can tell me why the remote is always gray on that screen)
