How to automagically add newly created VMs to Avamar backups?

I can't seem to find an answer to this. Our VMware environment is growing quickly and we'd like to have VMs automatically added to backup groups so they are not missed. In the past we've used vRanger and it was as simple as placing the VM into a vCenter folder but that doesn't appear possible in Avamar. It seems MCCI commands should get it done but I haven't had any luck there either. Any help would be much appreciated.
