Function of client agent/plugin and proxy?

Excuse me, I'm currently using Avamar 19.7 product and having some doubts want to be clarified.

I noticed the "Administration Guide" and found that there are agent software and plugins for backup/restore.

May I confirm some answers please.

1. Can i say that the  agent is typically utilized in use cases such as "manage/backup/restore physical machines and their app"?

2. Does the agent itself perfrom backup/restore? or it is just for management/communication purposes?

3. Can agent be utilized to improve performance when the proxy node backuping up client(through vSphere snapshot)?

4. does the operation of plugins always require the existance of agent software?

Thanks in advance.

Hope these questions are not too stupid.

Thanks Niko!

May I know why agent restore is more beneficial for file server?

And what's the difference between agent software and filesystem plugin when they do backup/restore? Aren't they the same?

Hi, usually fileservers tend to be x TB size. It will take time while mounting that size of vmdk from imagebackup and browse the file you want to restore. If you have agent backup on that server, restoring will take few minutes from start to stop, depending how many/large files you are restoring.

Filesystem "plugin" is installed along the agent. SQL/Exchange/etc are the add-on plugins on top of the agent.
