Fail to import data backup from tape to AER

Currenty I'm using Avamar backup 7.1.0-370 backup file share data from CIFS server on VNX 5500 to DD4500 then tape out. The problem is unable to restore data from tape due to the file system size is bigger than capacity of AER disk. The file system on VNX is about 13 TB while the local disk of AER is 6.5 TB.

is there any possible solution to fix this? Please advise.

You could potentially import it to another Avamar GSAN versus using the AER’s own however that will consume a considerable amount of that systems GSAN capacity.

Going forward, perhaps the ultimate solution for you would be to convert your tapeout process from AER to use ADMe which does not have this particular issue because

you can browse and select individual files directly when restoring from tape and without any dependencies on Avamar even being present in your environment.

The tape recovery process is almost business as usual because ADMe provides a fully cataloged tape backup making it far more practical and useful not to mention simpler

which only compounds itself the longer you retain your data on tape. There are numerous advantages to using ADMe such as its ability to write to almost any cloud GW

allowing cloud storage to be an alternative to using tape and because the files are in a rehydrated state regardless of what the future brings in terms of what Avamar will

offer in this area any data you do write with ADMe will always be accessible and recoverable directly.

I’ve attached a tapeout comparison chart to give you a better idea of the pros/cons of each solution and below is a link to the ADMe homepage.

I spoke with one of my colleagues from the support team and they suggested that you open a ticket and work with them to import the backup into an alternate Avamar system as Adam describes above.

Adam and Ian
Thanks for your info, Currently I don't have Avamar GSAN. Let me check with local EMC to get the information of Avamar GSAN such as product detail, capacity and cost.
