backup policies and retention policies

Hello everyone, i'm a newbie to avamar and i need some enlightenment on this :

- the advanced retention policy override the basic retention policy ?

- if we assigned 2 backup policies to a vm, the two policies will be applied or one of them will be prioritized ?
