Backup of SQL Server database on Availability Groups using AVAMAR

In a setup where databases are part of SQL Server Availability groups on 3 nodes (1 Primary and 2 Secondaries), is it possible in Avamar to backup from the 'Secondary Instance' even if the backup preference in the Availability Group configuration is set to 'Primary'?
