Backup and Recover of MSM
Hi,
I have installed an MSM server in a customers installation, where it will monitor 15+ Avamar servers (mostly AVE's).
I would like to create and test a backup of the MSM server. The documentation (Multiple Systems Management 1.0 Security Configuration Guide) are quite sparse on the subject. It states "To backup Multiple Systems Management, use vCenter." I have interpreted this as "do an VMWare Image backup from Avamar". This works. It skips the disks, but states, that the configuration files have been backed up.
Next step is to test recover. Again I refer to the documentation. I'm asked to stop msm and postgres, and "Restore the /var/lib/mem directory". How do I do that? I have not succeeded in restoring anything from the backup made with Avamar. I cannot restore it as a Image, nor do an FLR restore from the backup.
What am I missing?

I did find out, why the VMWare Image backup of my MSM did not work. The disks are deployed as independent disks, so I only get a backup of the config files for the VM.
So I guess my question boils down to: How do I perform backup and recover of a MSM server? The guidelines in the documentation are not of any help.
