Avamar 7.4 - VM tag rule shows no VMs to backup
I am onsite using Avamar 7.4.1 with vcenter 6 so we can try and backup VMs via the new VM tagging rule.
Whatever we do, we cant see the VMs with the tag to backup.
Has anyone tried this and got it working correctly? If so, some instructions or help would be great. thanks!
Regards, Mike

I too am working on this with mixed results. The way I got it to work was Tools>Manage Rules and made a new rule at the vcenter level. Filter - VM Tag, Operator - Includes, and Value - The 'Catagory'.The 'Tag Name'
Once that is in place got to Administration>Your Vcenter>right click the vcenter client and edit client... Enable dynamic VM import by rule, Add Domain Mapping. Select the rule you created from the drop down, and fill in the subdomain. Note, I could not select the default VirtualMachines as a subdomain, so I deleted it and made a "VMs". So you would enter /VMs or if another nested domain /Vms/Test1
Save that and resync with vcenter, you should see that subdomain populated with the tagged VM's now.
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to set up theses policies, so far I made a PowerCLI script to attach tags based on OS so I can separate Windows, Linux SQL etc...

thanks for the reply....and great information.
I have managed to get this working however if you have upgraded vcenter from 5.x to 6.0, then for some reason Avamar is not picking this up. Even after re-syncs with vcenter or editing the client to re-initiate the connection, Avamar still doesnt recognise that vcenter is at 6.0.
We had to completely remove the vcenter client (which removes the backups) and re-add it so it would recognise the tags. Must be a bug....
