Avamar 7.3+ and maintenance window

Hi

What is the latest deal regarding maintenance activities? Can I or should I run backups and replication during maint window? How should I organize according to best practicies?

Best practice is to minimize the number of running backups during the maintenance window. Running backups while maintenance is going on will cause resource contention on the system. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

And how about replications? Will they disrupt GC as well?

Also, because of the way GC interacts with running backups, it's important for the health of the system capacity-wise that it be completely idle for a short time each day.

I wrote up a blog post in 2013 that talks about how this was implemented and all the information in that post is still relevant:

Replication is a restore from the source and a backup to the target. Restores will not trigger the locking behaviour.
