x17 R2, won't boot, lights flash and no one is home

Hi, Yesterday whilst the laptop was unattended after a work session and on charge, the screen went dark and would not come back on. Restarting the unit just had the keyboard and all lights flashing but the screen never came on. Removing the battery cable and other things the internet suggested have not worked and even after 24 hours still no dice.

I don't know much about the internals of laptops so what can i do? does it need to go to someone?

Any attempt to enter the Bios fails because the screen won't come on

Is the power button flashing red/blue? If so, then these lights can help pinpoint a hardware issue.

If not, try plugging in an external monitor and see if you get a display on that.

You can also try unplugging the laptop and holding down the power button for 30-60 seconds and then try powering on again.

If it's a Windows issue then you can try powering on the laptop and wait for the black screen. Hold the power button down until the system shuts down. Power it on again and do this same procedure a total of 3 times. If it's a Windows issue you should then get the Windows recovery screen and you can try doing a recover or maybe a system restore, if it's unrecoverable. You will probably lose all your data on your C: drive if you do a restore.

@mattyb3 hey, so the power light is a static yellow and on it's dying breathe goes red and fades. Sorry i should have mentioned that all the lights flash for about 10 seconds and then just dies

A solid amber light usually means that the system is running on battery power. It could be that the adapter is failing and not charging your system. You could try another adapter, if you have one. Most Dell laptops have the same DC jack port. You just need one with a similar wattage output to properly charge the laptop.

@mattyb3 so the video shows it not plugged in and on battery which is correct, i have exactly the same scenario when plugged in but the power button is blue.
