x17 R2, Thunderbolt USB-C video capture device not working
Hey Guys,
I am using a Thunderbolt USB-C video device to capture video and audio [INPUT]. I have tried both USB-C ports at the back of my Alienware x17 R2 and it shows on the Device Manager as Thunderbolt but no signal via OBS Studio. I have googled Thunderbolt 3/4 and it does say that it is capable of output and input of video signals. Where am I going wrong? It maybe a simple solution, and I welcome to methods or tips.
Thanks

Does the device have drivers for whatever version of Windows you're running? Most Thunderbolt capture devices are older and tend to have drivers only for older OSes.
What is the model of the device in question?

@ejn63 Hi, thanks for responsding to my query, Its a firewire device that has a daisy chain of adaptors that connect via usb-c via Thunderbolt. So it's a digital video and audio input that the Alienware X17 R2 needs to recognise as DVMC Device manager recognises the device its just Software i.e. OBS Studio that doesn't show the device , I tried VLC player and others, I have even installed the IEEE legacy drivers , i literally can not work out why it wont show on the software.

It will need a driver one way or the other, and firewire has been obsolete technology for well over ten years. Whatever the device is, try contacting the manufacturer or a support group for it, but the likelihood of a firewire to USB/Thunderbolt adapter working is very low at this point. You will likely need to replace the device with a native USB/Thunderbolt device.

@ejn63 the device is plug and play kid I have FireWire to thunderbolt adaptor to usb C which shows in device manager I’ve added FireWire legacy drivers done a reboot. Is there a bios setting to enable FireWire on the Alienware x17 r2. When you google thunderbolt 3/4 it does say yes the port can take FireWire and video input and output so I am stuck here what to do
