x17 R2, keyboard backlighting inoperative after Windows update

Alienware x17 R2

Alienware x17 R2

Early this morning my laptop downloaded and installed two Windows 11 updates. Later I noticed that my keyboard backlighting had stopped working. I subsequently tried rebooting the laptop but no joy. After some online research I decided to uninstall the Alienware Command Center app using the instructions found on Dell's website. Following a reboot I downloaded and installed the latest version. Attempts to get the backlighting working since the installation have failed. I checked my system BIOS and it's the latest version. Any ideas for troubleshooting greatly appreciated. FYI, my laptop has Windows 11 Pro, 12th gen Intel Core I9-12900H processor, NVIDIA RTX 3080 TI GPU, 32 Gb RAM, and a 2 Tb SSD.

***Update - Fixed the Issue

Shut Down the PC and leave it off for 2mins and Remove the Power Charger Cord from the Laptop, Plug back in the Power Charger cord back in after 2mins and Turn on the Laptop, you should get the usual boot up RGB keyboard lights and then after windows loads you should see your keyboard lights appear again, must be something to do with the full power down after a firmware update, a reboot isn't enough!

Does the keyboard show up as a lighting zone in Command Center?

Have you tried going back to a previous system restore point before the updates caused this problem? This may be worth a try.

@mattyb3 On the latest version of Command Center I can select the Cherry Mechanical KB and choose preselected colors. I receive a confirmation from Command Center of preselect saved but unfortunately no backlighting. The only backlit items at the moment are the Alienware power button, the Alienware icon on the lid, and the lighting around the rear panel.

Great idea on system restore but unfortunately it had not been set up on the laptop. I have just set it up but it does me no good at this point. I did try uninstalling the Windows updates using the Windows System app but it appears that they immediately reinstalled themselves. I'm currently using Windows 11 version 23H2 and from what I'm reading you can no longer use Control Panel to uninstall. I have thought about engaging with Microsoft for troubleshooting but am not especially looking forward to that based upon prior experiences. At any rate, many thanks for your help.

Brief troubleshooting update - I attempted to uninstall the Windows updates using command prompt but the operating system wouldn't allow it. I also decided to completely power down the laptop. Upon powering up the keyboard lights did the usual rainbow wave routine. I had not been seeing this when rebooting the system. For yuks and grins I checked the system BIOS but as I figured could not find any settings pertaining to the keyboard lighting. After restarting from BIOS the keyboard again displayed the rainbow wave lighting but only while in the boot process. By the time the system reached the splash screen no keyboard lights. After accessing Windows I again launched Command Center and attempted to see if I could get the lights to work. No joy. At this point I'm thinking my only choice would be reinstalling Windows. I'll be pondering on that.

Yeah you may have to go through the trouble of reinstalling Windows unfortunately. It's good that you get the rainbow wave as it shows that it's probably not a hardware issue.

Would love to one day find out the solution to this. I've had this issue for a year or something. Every few months I'll do a search and see if there's any recent posts about it. Same symptoms, spectrum at start up, but no keyboard zone showing up in alienware command center.

Just has this issue appear out of no where tonight after I updated my X17R2 to the latest BIOS firmware 1.23.0

I have tried rolling back the firmware to 1.22.0 and did not fix the issue,  I tried uninstall and reinstall Alienware control centre v6 and also tried v5 with no luck either.  Also had a window update fail for version 24H2 tonight too, always happens at once lol.

Thinking of doing a fresh clean install on the Laptop, also the keyboard lights still work on boot up, as soon as windows is loading it no longer works, the function+F7 does not do anything either, All the other lights are working as normal.
I think its Windows or the firmware, but it works on boot up, so im leaning towards Windows issue...
