x17 R2, Diagnostics says bad battery

Can a battery be working one minute and dead the next? Can a bad bios fail to see the battery?

I installed a blank NVMe drive and installed windows. I then downloaded all of the dell drivers and the diagnostic software. It said everything was good. I went to do the bios update and it said I had to have both battery and power supply connected.  The power supply is connected and the battery is connected and was in use earlier.  Now the diagnostic says bad battery. I would hate to replace it only to find out something else is wrong. I have had this laptop about a month and it has been nothing but misery since I got it.

If the diagnostics gave bad battery error code, contact Dell warranty support for a battery replacement.  Click on Get Help Now, on bottom right of your screen, to start a live chat.

@Chino de Oro    I have ordered a new battery.   I am just surprised that one minute it is fully charged and the diagnostic says the battery is fine, and second later it says the battery is bad.

It could be from the previous error log.  Clear system CMOS or perform RTC reset

@Chino de Oro Now it gets better.    I shut down and let it charge all night.   I ran diagnostics on boot up this morning and it said everything is fine.   I boot up and the first message I get is not Dell battery and it will not be charged or recognized.    I bought it through dell!!!!!    I could have paid half as much for the same battery to get this message.    Is there a way to make it recognize the battery?

Also, the machine boots and immediately locks up in windows.   Don't know if it is related to the battery.

I put a new dell battery in and charged it all night. At first it said non dell battery. Now it seems to recognize it!

The error message is about the battery?  Not the charger?  Dell provides battery warranty for one year.  You have mentioned in the original post the laptop was purchase only a month old.  Does it still have warranty?  I guess you can contact Dell and pursuing another battery replacement.

If the laptop can not recognized a Dell OEM battery, something is wrong with the hardware, specifically motherboard.  There is more aggressive method, such as performing a BIOS recovery but with a possible hardware issue, there is small chance of bricking the system.

Either the brand new battery is dead or the system bricked. The seller won't give me a bill of sale and Dell won't help me without it. <Profanity is never allowed on our Forum. DELL-Admin>

@Chino de Oro    Have you ever seen a new x17 R2 opened up?    Does it come from the factory with blue heat sink tape on the board in the second NVMe slot?   This one has it, and it does not look factory.   It looks like a drive was installed and removed.
