x17 R1, connecting to AW2720HF

Hello All,

I have an Alienware X17R1 laptop, and recently bought an AW2720HF monitor.

I am trying to figure out how to connect the monitor to the laptop to ensure I am getting the best performance possible.

The AW2720HF came with a DisplayPort cable, and I would have assumed that my laptop would have a DisplayPort connector built it, but it does not. It has a Thunderbolt 4 port.

So apparently what I need is some sort of adapter that converts Thunderbolt to DisplayPort?

Additionally, my Alienware keyboard, headphones and mouse are all USB. So whatever solution I end up with needs at least three USB ports as well.

Any and all advice is most welcome.

Cost is not really a factor.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here is the online x17 R1 Setup and Specifications PDF showing that is has the following video out ports = Thunderbolt 4, HDMI

Here is the online AW2720HF user's Guide showing that it has the following video in ports = HDMI 1, HDMI 2, DisplayPort

So the connection options are =

x17 R1 Thunderbolt 4 --> USB-C to DP adapter --> AW2720HF DP in port
x17 R1 HDMI --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> AW2720HF HDMI 1 in port
x17 R1 HDMI --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> AW2720HF HDMI 2 in port

Hello!  Thanks for the reply....

I guess my confusion comes from the fact that I would be hooking my mouse, keyboard and headset up to the monitor, instead of directly to my AW laptop?

If that is true, how would the monitor communicate the information from those three peripherals to my laptop??

Via the Thunderbolt cable?

I apologize for my ignorance.

I very much appreciate your help!

Connect the provided AW2720HF USB-B to USB-A USB 3.0 upstream cable from AW2720HF #2 USB upstream port (page 11) to x17 R1 #2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 USB-A port (page 7).
