x16 R2, keyboard backlit off after user is inactive is missing

Alienware x16 R2

Alienware x16 R2

The x16 R2 UEFI does not include an option to automatically turn off the keyboard backlight when the user is inactive. This means that the keyboard backlight stays on even if the user is not using the laptop.

This is unusual, as most laptops provide such an option in the UEFI settings. While the Fn + F7 key can be used to turn off the backlight, it only does so permanently and does not offer a "dim/off after X seconds" feature.

idk why, but sure Alienware / Dell team had decided to remove this feature/option intentionally, but it's needed!

After updating to the latest BIOS version released yesterday, I noticed the keyboard backlight now turns off automatically if there’s no key input for a while.

However, there’s still no option in the BIOS/UEFI to control this behavior, which seems strange. But, at least, the issue is now somewhat resolved.

For reference, if the keyboard backlight turns off due to inactivity, touchpad input won’t trigger the backlight to turn back on for either the keyboard or the touchpad itself. Only pressing a key will reactivate the backlight.

I hope the next BIOS update includes a proper option under the [KEYBOARD] section in BIOS/UEFI to control this AS THE SAME AS OTHER LAPTOPS, DELL LAPTOPS.

updated: idk why, now my  keyboard backlit never turns off while inactive status, no input for a long time.

Does X16R2 have any ambient light sensor?

Dell even not answer for this matter.

This is really the first laptop in my entire life that the keyboard turns on eternally.

And the power button is not backlit properly.

While Standby, it should turn on as its own designed pattern as AWCC6 says. but it does not.

While a laptop turns off, but low battery and the power adapter is put - never turns on even if the laptop is being charged.

This is really the first laptop that does NOT have any lamp/led/signal for battery charging.

Overall well made laptop but very strange for several matters.

And Dell never hear.
